RMNA Rebrand
09/14/2025
Hello friends,
We have some very shocking news for the RMNA community. Beginning in the 2026 Season, the RMNA competition will no longer be called RoboMaster University League North America, or use the “RoboMaster” brand, including the R. This is due to policy changes that are out of our control.
So, what does this mean for the competition? The competition will still be happening as planned! Similar to last year, we will make changes to the field and small changes to the rules for the NA competition. We are still using the same referee system, and using the same game server as RMUL. For teams, your experience will not change much from previous years.
What do you need to do?
In order to best sell our own, new brand and avoid conflict with the RMOC, All participating teams must remove RoboMaster branding in their registered team name and team logo to complete 2026 Registration. Furthermore, anything to be featured on our media channels (Livestream, Website, Instagram, etc) cannot have references to RoboMaster branding by the end of March, 2026. Please reach out if there are any questions regarding the degree that you need to scrub RoboMaster branding, especially if your team plans to compete in RMUC. We acknowledge that teams have put a lot of time and effort into building their brands, and we are here to help ease this transition and provide support.
“RoboMaster branding” includes:
-
RoboMaster,
-
机甲大师,
-
RM,
-
RMNA,
-
DJI,
-
"R" Logo
-
Examples: Say there is a school called American University. The following team names would not allowed:
-
AU_RM,
-
AU RoboMasters Club,
-
机甲大师@AU,
-
AURMNA,
-
AUDJI,
Other media (Instagram, website link, linkedin etc): The following are allowed, but we will not advertise them using our media channel:
-
Instagram: @AU_RM,
-
LinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/aurobomasters/,
Once we have completed our rebrand, we would ask that you use our new identity when referencing the organization and competition. We will choose our new brand in the next two weeks and complete the transition process by the start of October.
Role of the RMOC
In the future The RMOC, though they are limited in what they can do to help us, are continuing to support our competition. They are allowing us to continue to borrow the referee system, and ensuring we are able to get competition supplies such as armor panel stickers and projectiles.
Rules Changes
We have gained significantly more freedom to make and enforce all rules (Participant, Robot Building, and Game) as we want! We have several draft rulesets which open up the strategic and technical dimensions for teams to express creativity. The RMOC will continue to publish rules manuals in English, and we aim to minimize deviations such that our competitors can continue to participate in RMUC.
Team Fees for Competition
There is no change to team fees previously announced.
Discounts and Offline Order for purchasing RM Components
We are still determining the details on the team discounts and ordering of components historically purchased through offline order. It is likely that the method of ordering will change. As we get more information on this, or if we find alternative vendors to provide discounts to teams, we will let y’all know as soon as we have that information.
Registration and Assessments
All registration and assessments will be submitted to us, not the RMOC. We don’t have anything set in stone right now but your team will likely follow a very similar process and schedule as before.
Autonomy!
Because we will no longer be associated with RoboMaster, we are gaining many freedoms. We can make decisions on the competition without review and approval from the RMOC, interpret rules on our own, and most importantly, we no longer face restrictions on event sponsors. We hope that this will also facilitate more support from schools who have restrictions on DJI related products and events.
So, what should we call ourselves?
Our community is one of the most important parts of the competition formerly known as RoboMaster North America. We want to hear your ideas on what our new name and look should be! Share your thoughts in the new channel, 2026-rebrand, or on this google slide deck. Additionally, if you know any graphic designers, get their opinions too!
This is a big change, so please don’t hesitate to reach out with questions, concerns, or to just chat about the competition or changes. We are very excited about the new freedoms we will have and the possibilities that come with them, and am looking forward to growing our competition even more.
Q&A
Q: Will we still be able to borrow a referee system?
A: Yes, we will have loaner referee system available. It will be the same hardware used in RMUL 2025.
Q: Which rules manual do I refer to?
A: The RMOC will still release the Chinese rules and an English translation. For our competition, we will publish our own version of each manual, which will be the source of truth for our competition.
Q: Can my team still participate in RMUC?
A: Yes! Treat this competition as an extra, unrelated competition your team is competing in.
Q: Will we still have to complete assessments?
A: Yes, but we will create our own assessments that you will submit directly to us. Expect them to be pretty similar to previous RMUL/C assessments. If you want to compete in RMUL or RMUC, you will still have to complete those assessments separately.
Q: are we still able to purchase referee systems?
A:
Q: Can we still get the registration discounts?
A:
Q: Will we have to cover all of the "RoboMaster" logos on the referee system?
A: This is still not decided, but worst-case scenario we will provide black stickers at the competition to cover them up. There will be more details on this once we release the manuals for our competition.
Q: Can we come up with a Chinese name?
A: While we aren't currently working on one, its certainly a possibility. Let us know in Discord if you have any ideas!
Q: Can we use our own ref system? Can we have April Tags? Can we have xx rule change?
A: Because we are allowed to write our own rules, we can make changes like this. Stay tuned for rules manual release (expected shortly after initial English RMUL rule release)
Q: What do we do with our team stuff, like clothes, tablecloths or posters, that have RoboMaster branding?
A: If you have a table cloth, or RoboMaster on your personal stuff, or RoboMaster on your swag from previous years, we won't force you to change clothes or throw away your old stuff. We ask that you do not bring any large signs that have RoboMaster branding on them to the competition, however you are welcome to use them to advertise within your school and community. Our request to teams is to help spread our new brand in whatever way is feasible for your team -- for our benefit and yours.
Q: Do we have to change all of our internal branding to remove RoboMaster? What if our team name registered with our school has "RoboMaster" in it?
A: We will be referring to your team using the name you register for the competition with. So, there is no issue if you have internal documentation with "RoboMaster" in it, as long as you don't register your team with that name. Refer to "What do you need to do?" in the announcement above for detailed guidance.
Q: When we refer to previous years, what competition do we say we participated in?
A:
